Making a Big Difference through Simple Acts

Sherry Monroe, Sunday School Teacher

I'm so excited about where God is taking us and so excited about what He is showing us.

We began this new journey last Sunday and we all agreed that being "letters of recommendation" (2 Corinthians 3:3) is exactly what we have been called to be.  And because we have been given "much" (Luke 12:48), then we have an enormous responsibility to recommend Christ to the world.  Here's the cool part - Jesus Christ has given us everything we need to carry this thing out - HIMSELF!!

Do you realize that God raises up competent ministers?  People that make a mark on their generation - people whose lives make a difference and mean something when it's all been said and done.  People that sacrificed - here's the BIGGIE - self indulgence.  The biggest lie the enemy gives us - the more we're about ourselves, the happier we'll be.

I don't know about you but I am so sick of the "life is all about me" mentality in our society and I am ready to be about the Father's business for a change.  Let's make a commitment together - let's all decide (and it is a decision) to lay down self absorption and self indulgence for a change and let's make a difference in someone's life!  Let's "lose our lives" for Christ and highly recommend Him to someone.

Through simple acts of kindness we can make a huge difference in someone's life…not for our sake but His!  Keep in mind - this isn't about us.  It's about Jesus!  It's not about doing something for Jesus.  It's about allowing Him to do something through us.  We have to allow the Spirit of the Living Christ to lead us.  But back to the practicality thing ... some things we talked about this morning and some examples of ways we might be able to show Christ:

· Spend time talking to someone you may not normally talk to - begin building a relationship

· Not getting mad when you have every right to - for example:  in the checkout line at the grocery store when the clerk messes up your order; when things don't go your way; etc

· Taking someone to lunch just to treat them - for no reason

· Helping someone with a chore

· Visiting w/ your neighbor that you don't know

Keep in mind - the goal is to recommend Him to others.

I sense that God is challenging each of us to be competent ministers.  Let's ask Him to show each of us ways we can recommend Him to someone.  Ask Him to open up opportunities and to make it clear when He is doing that.   And ask Him to empower us to respond in total obedience!

I so want to make an impact for Christ, don't you? As our pastor said this morning – "Good deeds move people towards Jesus".
